Why recruitment agencies suck

I really dislike recruitment agencies. The so called "consultants" are usually rude, arrogant and salesey. They are only interested in getting you in to register with them, they then promise you the world and you don't hear from them again, unless they want to flog you some job they can't get anyone else to do and think you will go for it because you are desperate or don't have 5 years plus experience in the particular field you are interested in. They will hardly ever put you forward for permanent work because they make more money out of you if you are just temping via them. They lie to you about the jobs and what they involve, making rubbish jobs sound like they are more high profile than they really are and they even lie about the salary / hourly rate you will get, if they think it will get you to say "Yes, please send my CV to that company!". Their philosophy is: "Get them to agree to it and worry about the details later!"
My experience of recruitment agencies has been a very dissapoiting one. I have been lied to, treated as if I were an idiot, pushed around, patronized, insulted and told off for calling or emailiing them every once in a while to ask if they actually have anything for me! Today I was even told by one of these self-styled "high-flyers" to "not call" her or "email" her please "about jobs that are not relevant" (i.e. I had applied for a job she felt was too senior for me) as this was wasting her time and she was very busy! How rude. She even had the audacity to leave this message on my work voicemail. And she was from one of the biggest agencies...

Please feel free to share any bad experienecs you have had with recruitment agencies, as it would be really 'therapeutic' to hear from fellow 'sufferers'. :-)

I applied for a position that was advertised as "permanent, fulltime".After the first day on the job, I couldn't understand why they were pressuring me to learn the(very difficult, detailed)job extra quickly - then I discovered it was only temp! I quit and gave the agency a serve!

I've been trying to find a job for 7 months, and during all this time I have sent at least 150-200 CVs out, the vast majority to recruitment firms. And not one single interview, despite constantly speaking to really enthusiastic, sincere-sounding people. They call you up with this great opportunity, ask for your CV then that's it. Nothing again. Silence. Chase them up and you get stalling stories or a 'sorry, the client selected someone else'. No feedback, no nothing. So I now have NO idea what I'm doing wrong. They all think my experience and skills are excellent and really in high demand, but can I get a job? an interview? Can I ****!

They may get someone into work at some stage, but not me.

I signed up with Corestaff, and currently they're starting to piss me off. I've called almost every day this past week asking for jobs and assignments, and they told me nothing was available. When I called them earlier today, I asked if they had any jobs available this past week and they told me there were over 20 jobs available! This pissed me off as they said I am on their available list and they lied to me when I asked them about what was available.

100% Correct -- How many of you enjoy speaking to 22 year old "Consultant" with absolutely no experience in your industry about a particular job. My approach -- go in to the recruitment office get the company name for the position you are interested in, tell your "consultant" you're not interested and then directly apply. It sounds wrong, but when you talk about your career, you've got to take things into your own hands and not let a bunch of sales chumps screw you over.

I'm in the same boat. Looking for the past two months. They call you to come in, because of course, they have to meet you in person before they can send you on any interviews, (i think this is a ploy to obtain your "looks"...are you fat, thin, pretty, ugly) etc. Then you go meet with one or two people and never hear back. It's a joke! I"m surprised these people are even around. Who are they placing in these jobs??? I know times are tough, but I have over 20 years of work experience. Unless I am being age discriminated against. All I know is THEY SUCK And it is a HUGE WASTE OF TIME. PERIOD. Esp, when you meet with young ones, who are just a few years older than my kids. B A D But, can someone pls tell me how else to obtain a job?? I know networking is KEY. but the market is really bad right now, with all the financial crisis splattered all over the news........

I am an ex recruitment consultant of almost 10 years and have left the profession because of the way the majority agencies treat candidates. I am myself registering with agencies and am being informed 'Someone will call you back'. I have yet to determine if this will be before or after the 2012 games.
Not all agencies are bad but alas, 80% of the ones that I have contacted in the last 2 weeks have been shocking. If anyone has had a bad experience then report them to the REC. This organisation 'polices' agencies therefore if the agency has acted unprofessionally then you can 'drop them in it'.

I am off to a brighter future away from recruitment as a Traffic Warden, a wheel clamper, An Estate Agent or a Tax Inspector.

    Anything but a Recruitment Consultant.

Every single staffing/employment agency I've been to in the last 10 years has blown me off, and I've completely written them off as well. Hopefully everyone does this and eventually those worthless jobs won't exist anymore, and those "consultants" who practically interrogate you will know just how it is in the real world. The only reason I can think of the reason for their existence is because this world is way too over populated, and someone with a lot of money creates a "employment agency" with some of their money hoping to make a little more money. When shit hits the fan, at least the owner of the company came out above. Not much to say about the rest of the ants. No offense anyone. Speaking of, I'm moving to Seattle 1/1/2009, anyone got a job for me!?!?! ;)

I have worked with Kelly and Express Employment Professionals. After 10 months of looking for a job, I registered with EEP. I just lost out on one waiting for this last company. A company they wouldnt tell me the name was hiring. I found out who it was, thought about going to Human Resources directly, but thought no I better wait on EEP bc it's protocol. Today I call the job was taken by someone that went in directly, so say the same day she sent my resume in, which was supposed to be 2 weeks ago, and surprise I never received a phone call letting me know anything, and actually had to coerce her into finding additional jobs for me, which she was completely blank and practically sarcastic with me. I have a BSBA in MIS! I am never relying on these people again. I will take my career into my own hands. I should have went in there directly, I bet you anything I would have been hired on the spot. I feel like such an idiot trusting EEP, oh and Kelly after telling me I am their best candidate, never heard form them again in a year. I think they are only there to shuffle the 7 dollar an hour guys around.

i dont think recruitment agencies suck at all they have found me 2 of the best jobs i've ever had.I'm looking for work and am being helped by a recruitment website called recruitment revolution,a low cost recruitment agency and they are really helping to build my confidence with great advise on finding work, taking my previous experience and making it work over a range of areas to maximise the chance of finding something sooner rather than later.

I can't stand recruitment agencies who refuse to help you or even try to persuade the company offering the role to take you on when you don't live in the town/city where the job is. They expect you to relocate at a moments notice for a job which is advertised as permanent but is actually temporary. For example, I currently live in North Lincolnshire with my parents and I applied for a permanent job down in Bromley (Kent) , two days after I sent my CV to the agency they sent me an email saying that if I was currently residing in North Lincolnshire than the company will not wait for me to relocate. I feel that I am being victimised because of where I live now
    (an economically depressed area)

I couldn’t agree more with all the other posts.
It seems that employment agencies are broken up into two categories. The first category are those agencies that are paid by the company to recruit for them. These agencies suck to no end! They are worse than the help you receive at most fast food restaurants. The employees are usually young kids who don’t know squat. It is no mystery that everyone has a bad experience with them.
The second type of agency asks that you, an unemployed person, pay them a fee so they can look for a job for you. The trouble with this is most of us can’t afford shelling out 5,000.00 to a head hunter.
Trust me, if you want to get a job you have to make it happen yourself. I spent all day yesterday just driving around some industrial parks circulating my resume. I even called my last place of employment’s competitors. So far I have created about 6 interviews on my own.
I also have started to request informational interviews. These are a great tool to use and although they are not necessarily a promise of a job they allow you, the candidate, an inside view of some large companies.
All of us have computers … right? So sit down and draft a simple letter for request for an informational interview and send them out to as many companies that you can. Please don’t rely on the 22 year old snot at some employment agency.
    Good Luck everyone!

Temp agencies and employment agencies suck. They need to be banished from the kingdom. It's just a middleman between you and your employment and that seems like it should be illegal. The company would pay you direct double what the agency pays you after they take half of your earnings. Big waste of time and major disappointments.

I totally agree with everything that you wrote...

I have had some of my worst experiences with VENTURY STAFFING, and MANPOWER. Every employee is rude, stupid, selfish, and I hope they burn in hell for their lies.

These staffing agencies put ads on careerbuilder, craigslist, etc... Then you apply for this job because you think it sounds like a good fit. You usually then get a call within 24 hours from a staffing agent who asks you to come in and waste 4 hours of your life filling out paperwork and tests followed by an interview. Then, only if they like you will they look for a job for you, and when you ask about the job that you originally applied for, the staffing agent suddenly has a memory laps and acts as though they have no idea what you are talking about. Then, if something does come up months down the road, the staffing agency tells you to come back in to update your paperwork.

Even though there are probably two good staffing agencies in the whole entire world, you should not waste your time hoping that these white trash agencies actually care about you ( the employee ).

As an employee you are the staffing agencies product that is being sold to the highest bidder ( kinda like 18th century slavery ). The staffing agency employees will try to get you to take the job from whoever offers the most money for your credentials. The staffing agency will make you feel less than human because they want to sell fucking superman to their clients and all they get is a human being... So, unless you are superman don't expect to find a good job with those idiots. One other thing. Remember that staffing agencies usually have clients who have the crappiest jobs on earth at the crappiest rate of pay and these jobs usually have a high turn over rate and that is why these employers usually pick staffing agencies.

The moral to my rant is that no matter how desperate you are for a job do not apply with a staffing firm. If you do apply with any staffing firm, don't be surprised if you end up as a paper boy who delivers papers in the ghetto for less than minimum wage.

If you are a staffing firm employee or greedy corporate officer, you should stop what you are doing to us people and jump off a fucking cliff!!!!

Agencies are scum, usually staffed by young wet behind the ears college drop outs who have failed massively in their own career progress. They have no idea about the industry they serve or the clients/freelancers they represent. They lie though their teeth do nothing for their v.large cut of your days money and present you with **** jobs! Im currently having to drive for 2 hours each way to get to a job I could do with with me eyes closed. Is that really the best they have to offer? No but they consistently seem to put forward friends in front of talent and experience.

More intent on collecting contacts on their linkedin profiles so they look good whilst giving their 'views' on work they have no idea about. Wannabes!

I went to an interview at a well know agency and the cocky wide boy interviewer who didn't even let me present my portfolio just had to sit there while he told me how great these other guys were - so I questioned why and all he could say was 'oh there's a nice alignment on the right column' - WTF!

My advice approach agencies/clients yourselves and forget recruitment agencies. The employer in most cases would be happier not having to pay a percentage to these lazy drop outs cowboys and probably in most cases prefer employing you directly.

Temp agencies suck. There existance undermines the average working persons abilitry to get a decent paying job with basic benefits. They Are a CANCER & PARASITES!! Why do you think unions where formed in the first place???
If they do exist they should be "EXTREMELY" limited. They are not here to help you find a better job. They exist for themselves and the compaies who use there services. They allow companies to incorporate polices that where the norm in the 1920,s and 30,s!!! NO BENEFITS, NO INSURURANCE, AND LOW PAY. IF Thats a big IF these entites where elimites to the point of extinction and imports where extremely limited. And all the companies who want to set up their swaetshops in Mexico. SouthEast Asia, China or whatever country they so choose Can go sell there crap over there instead of dumping it over here. I am sure that you would see things turn around . Mista J

Temp agencies are bullshit, and a lot of companies are going threw them nowadays. Has America entered a socialist draconian police state? I busted my ass for $8.25/hr with a drive of 88 miles round-trip for a warehouse position. I was a temp for one my of least favorite companies, Wal-Mart. The job was so disorderly that no one knew what to do since the "managers" from different states couldn't take their heads out of their asses. It ended up to be slave-like labor. $8.25/hr working for a multi-billion dollar company. I hope their new happy with their new style stores, since I built most of the shit for them. Temp agencies are like resumes, who needs them? Also college is a waste of money and time go to a library.

Fuck Temp agencies. After working for every temp agency in my hometown for around 7 years, my employment history is now a train wreck of shit and I can't get a decent job now to save my life. After my second divorce I'm now unemployed and living out of a tent, with no real hope for the future. Well, maybe...I might stand a chance if I can keep the state of Missouri from suspending my license for inability to pay child support to my second wife - I might be able to go to otr truck driving school in another year. Corporate policy and the fucking system - everyone's only interested in protecting their corporate asses and common people are getting screwed. Our leaders aren't working for us anymore, they've abandoned us - sending jobs and money to other countries while we fucking starve and freeze to death on the streets here at home. Only good news is that maybe pretty soon they're gonna finally put the death camps and train cars converted into gas chamber to use and get rid of all the useless worthless bags of shit we have in this country. All the handicapped, disabled, everyone in prison, and anyone they decide to label a political dissident; and anyone else that is seen as generally worthless or useless or a burden on society. 2012. Nibiru. Solar flares. Return of Christ. Life as many people know it IS going to change very soon, and end for many.
The end is near. You've been advised.

Temp agencies are undermining the strength of the Alberta economy.

It lets companies get away with non-hiring polices; it does away the company's obligation to issue benefits to the working individual.

Why bother having an HR department if they just hand over their requests to a temp agency? When will real companies start to realize that their working team is fragmented – undermined by the varying levels of moral, ethics and work standards that can be found within a company due to the hiring and using of employees in this manner. Companies can save the extra money they spend paying for high priced help (paying the actual employee a fraction of this) and use this “extra money” to pay the employee benefits which will improve the overall health of the company, the employee and therefore the Province.

Temp companies can be an easy way to find work but also an easy way for companies to use and abuse employees. This is another example of the “Alberta Advantage”, welcome to Calgary.

We should start a petition against temp companies in Calgary and how they are “ruining” the work force for hard working Albertans! Can anyone assist me with getting this to city hall or the Provincial/ Federal Government?

Encountered recently much rudeness and “inhumanness” when I was working for TransCanada Pipelines, dwntwn Calgary through Kelly Services in an document control job. After being made comfortable at work, (lied to that “perhaps this could be a retirement job”). I was then rushed into a “hot” workload. I came in early, worked thro lunch and stayed late to finish this "extra rush work". Then one day, 4 months later into this job, I am scheduled for a "job review" by Kelly Services and unceremoniously told my services are no longer needed. (“Open season was completed”). My stuff from my desk was brought to me in a box in the lobby, as I wasn’t allowed to return to my desk. Yes, my personal belongings, personal notes gone through, and later with a hassle my personal workbook was finally mailed to me, with deletions to my notes of course as I had been surprised with this dismissal and had left these items at my desk. I was then sent on my way that day with no further thought or concern as to my way home with my box of belongings or that I had no references available for the hard work that I done for this company that had picked my brain and used my services for the past 4 months. The main Supervisor I was working with didn’t even have the balls to say goodbye in person, she had lied to me with a smile on her face all along I now realize, gads, I had heard that the TransCanada Pipelines farewell budget had decreased but apparently there is also a negative in the common human decency as well. I have worked for some large - major companies within Canada and Calgary and this was the worst and most “uncouth” - “farewell” I have ever yet received. Beware of TransCanada Pipelines and Kelly Services is all I can say.

Temp agencies are basically like pimps for labourers.

The most basic thing a woman can do is sell her body.

The most basic thing a man can do is hard labour.

These idiot temp agencies sit back and collect free money while you slave away. I got a call from a temp agency to go work at a warehouse from 9pm until 5am. When I got there, they told me I would be scrubbing a floor all night and gave me a bucket of dirty water and a brush that didnt even fit in the bucket. they told me to start scrubbing stains that looked like they had been there for 5 or more years. I left about 20 minutes later.

Oh and they wanted to pay me 10 dollars an hour while the temp agency faggot who hired me gets money to sit on his ass.

Fuck temp agencies especially Mike from Workforce in Vancouver. Fucking goof.

I am sick of Temp agencies!!! After moving to the Boston area, and putting my resume out there about 200 times, I finally got a call from PSG temps. The lady that called was very enthusiastic and acted like I was a great candidate. After going to their office and interviewing and again being told that they were sure they could find me something, I never heard from them!!! When I call, they always say, "they are working or something", and then never call me back. The same can be said of Accountemps and Accountants International. The latter actually said she was faxing my resume over to two potential employers, acting like they were very interested in me, and then I heard, "nothing". When I called to ask what happened, the recruiter states that they "never got back to her"??.....In my opinion, that is pure hog-wash. I think these agencies create "fake" jobs to get you all excited, and then drop the ball- a pure waste of time!!!

    Honestly folks.
Temp Agencies are like Legalized Prostitution. I have been searching for a place in Orangeville Ontario to work for, for the past three months. Everywhere up here doesn't even bother with Resumes, nor do they even care about people calling up too inquire about Job Openings. All you ever get is, "Sorry we go through Agencies." Now, I know first hand how Agencies can fuck people over, with their fangs in your wallet. However, it's all really the Work Places fault, they're the reasons that these fucking pits (Agencies) even are around. Agencies are around because the Companies don't want to pay standardized wages. Get the Workplaces too stop dicking for Temps and the Agencies will fucking disappear and hopefully all the fucks that work for them as well. Living off of others' sweat and blood should be a Crime punishable by Death in my opinion.

Same goes for Kelly Services in NY. Been told on 3 separate occasions that the job I was going for was "temp to hire" then low and behold I was laid off after about 4 months with each position because "the work dried up". Every time I mention job interviews with other companies not affiliated with these slave traders I'm met with nervous laughter, and unconvincing "good for you" comments.

Seriously a word of caution. The longer you stay with a temp agency the more dependent you become on them. If the last two years of work on your resume is going to be factory/warehouse stuff, your chances of getting into a job like retail/sales or any entry level position that has actual room for advancement will quickly evaporate.

Take as many interviews as you can while working for these jackals.

Ya..temp agencies are scum bag vampires, they suck your blood to the last drop and get rid off u without a blink of eye!

Just recently I came across with a temp agency called Tekmark Solution some shit..it's really a bad ass agency, you know why? because they are paying $10 per hour for a work in Bank of America!! Great place to gain experience as some of you may think, but the truth is not. I am glad i didn't fall into that trap. The guy interviewed me on site of BOA where formally Merrill Lynch located in NJ. The thing that pissed me off the most was what he said to the three of us (we are all recent graduate) that he assumed all of us live at home, so we don't need much money to support ourselves, we can live with 10$ per hour for several month!! Until we get the full time job at BOA...What a fucker, I worked for total of 3 temp agencies before, and none of those pay me under 12 per hour..and this guy think $10 is pretty decent as all he need to do is to grab a cup of coffee everyday, sit down whacking off in front of some gay porn shit and someone will work the shit out for him.

I told him it's a great opportunity of course and I like the job. And the next day one stupid lady contacted me and welcome me to the team, and then I start negotiating the salary with her, and all the sudden her tone of voice changed, haha. I know she won't raise the pay so I brake the deal. screw her up like the retarded man did to many people before.

I already the the fact that it's not likely the temp agency would want BOA to hire us, as they consider we are their slaves and tools for making money. So my recommendation to everyone who are actively seeking jobs is: Never go through a job agency for job UNLESS, you have completely no experience or just got out of college..and the company is a fortune 500 company, or you better find a job on your own..why let the middle man make your money and you are the one do all the hard work ? Consider my words!

Amen to this post! I found it when I googled 'recruitment agencies suck'. I live in London and over the years have dealt with at least a dozen recruitment agencies when looking for work and they are all the same. Waste of time, you go in to register and either don't ever hear from them again despite promises of "we'll contact you as soon as something comes in" OR they give you a job spec which they force upon you. If you are lucky enough to get an interview, they always say "the client is SO KEEN to meet you". God forbid you say NO to something - they get soo pushy (yes, I know its a sales role, but they are so bitchy!). I have gotten work only twice through an agency and that was pretty much a fluke. Now I am looking for work again, and its the same old bullshit - go in, register and never hear from them again. If you email or call to check in, you are always told there is nothing in at the moment but they will call you when something pops up. LIES!
I am going to take everyone's advice here and try to apply to the companies directly.
Good luck everyone, glad to know I'm not the only one who think these idiots suck!!

Been looking for a job after I was laid off from a full-time position in Jan. 2010. Finally, I was offered a temp-to-perm position through a staffing agency. After 13 days, the company decided to terminate me.

From day one, the company I worked onsite for was bombarding me with stuff to do.

By day two, I had about 20 file folders made up. I am a very organized person, so I was trying my best to keep up.

A woman in her late 20s, I'd say, was supposed to be coaching/mentoring me (I'm 40, so I laughed to myself that she was in middle school when I was graduating college). She was overwhelmed with work herself, so she didn't have much time to train me. I asked questions and the feedback I got was that I was doing a great job and things were starting to come together. This was last Friday.

On Wednesday after 5 pm, my agency called me to say (and these were his words): They don't want you coming back anymore. He made a comment about me not being able to keep up with their training. After 13 days?? Hell, I just figured out where the copier was on the 5th day of being there!

Despite all of the craziness, I met all of their deadlines, plus I had gotten positive feedback. WTH?

I went to the agency the next day and told the recruiter his delivery of the message made me feel like dirt, and he could have been more diplomatic. The HR Generalist was in the room, and neither of them said a word. I asked for more feedback, because the recruiter tried to backtrack on what he said. I later got a voicemail saying that indeed they thought I hadn't caught on quickly enough to what they needed to do "for the position." The agency also said, "Well, you're a contingent worker, and that's how things go."

I think (and am hopeful) I will be able to get back on unemployment again, but I will not be using that agency again, and am definitely thinking twice about temping ever again. They treat you like garbage and don't care about you.

Temp agencies suck. I registered with so many and I still have not been able to find employment with any of them.
I had a handful of agencies that called me and so I went in and met with them. They did my interview and I did the online testing at home. Since then I havent found nothing. I had one agency that found me a temp position so I was all excited that finally I had an opportunity and then they pulled out the rug from under me. Two weeks had gone by and I never heard from the agency, so i called up the recruiter and he told me that the company had changed there mind and were not hiring at the moment. I felt like saying did you not check with them before you decided to offer me the job? I had to go through all the trouble of meeting with them to have them just screw me over. Some people have had good experiences with agencies and some like me have had horrible time of using them.

This employment agencies are filters that block all the opportunities employee should directly get from the employers.

It will be absolutely be fine if there is no employment agency at all. The employers will directly advertise their open positions in the media; such as Newspapers, Magazines,TV..etc.

What these so called employment agencies do is - they try to obtain open vacancies as much as they can, keep them closed, and make profit from them. By doing that they actually are blocking opportunities for job seekers.

Moreover, those agencies step into job search websites, such as careerbuilder.com, craiglist jobs etc.. post a fake position with contact number of the agencies to deceive job seekers, and obtain personal identities. Shame on you agencies! Namely, First Team, Express, and Anchor are worst ones!

Temp agencies, they're nothing but parasites. I live in the "other" London, and this city has been ravaged by these god damn things. I've now signed up with five right now, and have submitted my resume to the others as well. - About seven or so.

I've worked for pretty much every temp agency here in London, and it's the same god damn story every time. You call up and they give you the same bullshit story. - "We don't have anything but we'll hot list you". It's the same old shit every time I call. I even call in on Fridays to make myself available for the next week, and this one time I was LAUGHED at for calling in. The dumb bitch said I have to call the next Monday, but she'll "hot list me just this one time" acting like she was doing me a favor. When I said "What if you need me to go in right first thing at 7am for Monday morning?", she was dumbfounded and didn't know what to say.

Now about "temp to perm"... don't believe that for a second. In all the temp jobs I've worked over the last 9 years, every one of them has been "temp to perm". They only tell you that so you'll work harder in hopes that you get hired. But all the while, you're having a carrot dangled in front of you. The odd time someone will get hired, so people don't catch onto their little scam, but it won't be long before that person is fired and then it begins all over again.

Another thing that pisses me off about these temp agencies. - Many of their jobs require a car but only pay 11 bucks an hour. How the fuck do you pay for even a bus pass, let alone a fucking car on barely above minimum wage? (Minimum wage in the province of Ontario is $10.25)

I've pretty much given up on ever being able to get a job here, and am convinced my best option is to just apply for disability. My resume is a train wreck of shit from the last 9 years, and any job interview I get quickly goes to shit when I tell them I have most of my experience from temp agencies. - Some even have the nerve to tell me "we need someone that has a more stable employment history". - This was to be hired on from a temp agency. I'd have a more stable work history if they didn't rely on fucking temp agencies that steal half your wages.

Now about the worst of the worst. Kelly Services in London Ontario is by far the worst. I was at one job making 10 bucks an hour in 2003, and I was almost hired on for a nice wage of 15/hr, but the agency sabotaged the relationship, making me look bad. I was told to go in one night, but they never called anyone. Another night they said the company canceled the work request, but all the while, they actually were expecting me to go in anyways. I found out a few years later from my old foreman that they caught on after so many people just never came back.

At some jobs you get sent to as a temp, you're treated like garbage. The other employees see you as nothing and less than worthless, constantly screaming at you and cutting you down the best they can. This is actually condoned by the bosses at some jobs because "it makes temps work harder".

If you can, avoid temp agencies. You're better off on welfare or unemployment than you are going to one that will steal at least 1/3 of your wages. Why you ask? Because if you get a call to interview for a REAL job, but you're at a temp job, what can you do? Just call in and say you can't make it? Then you get fired from the temp job, and then you're really screwed if you don't get the job you're interviewing for. So yeah, just stick with welfare and unemployment as long as you can. - Where is the motivation to get a job anyways if you work for minimum wage, zero job security and NO health coverage at all?

See my point? Temp agencies suck, and should be banned.

  • At June 20, 2011 5:35 PM, Anonymous The Angry Guy said…

Another point I forgot to make is this. Many temp agencies will run a general or vague ad designed at only to bring in more resumes. There is no job available, nor will there ever be. The only reason they'll run an ad is to get about 100 resumes, and the average resume might have 5 companies on it.

Guess what? The temp agency just got 500 potential new clients that they can sell their service to.

This was even confirmed by me once when I called up one named Derby Staffing. I asked about the job and they said "Oh that, we only use that to build up our labor pool, it got you in didn't it?", she followed up that with a laugh and said she has nothing available for me.

I told her don't bother calling me for any jobs in the future, and to take my name off their list. Why would I want to work for such a dishonest company like that?

Heres something for somebody with the time and resources to get out regressive goverment to quit bending over backwards for corporate interests.

Temp agencies, coupled with emplotment insurance legislation, and socail assistance legislation infringe upon Canadians Charter of rights and freedoms.

    Namely: Equality Rights.
Interpreted literally, there is a host of issues within this charter that shows that temp agencies are illegal.

Just like pollution or environmental issues the world needs to be informed about how temp agencies are like crap to the working individual and the inherent right to earn living in ones own country. In fact immigrants get hired by temp agencies as a token of the companies/ countries good will before the average native Canadian gets hired, as apparently we dont need money to live on.

I would guess that 75 percent of companies in Calgary don't hire directly anymore, just go through temp agencies, to repeat - this is crap, might as well go on welfare, get Government assisted housing and prepare to live a life in poverty. Why bother trying to get a decent career anymore. Not worth the hassel. Cant take it with you anyways, might as well sit back and enjoy life at another level. Oh joy what a revelation this is, thanks to the temp agencies this is now a reality.

If you have the chance, Boy-cott temp agencies, run, dont walk, dont get involved with them, they will use you and spit you out.

Government assistance, ha! even the Governmental EI and Welfare offices push the temp agencies as a go to place to find work, what is this "labour issue" coming to, when even the Government is in on this slavery of sorts???

I suppose these Agencies have sold their temp idea to the Government as a way to quickly get the people to work and of course the average governmental politician is too stupid to dig further. To see what havoc this is causing, but rather just hearing the commerical, seeing the numbers, the stats, the incoming tax dollars. Of course these Governmental officials in power are so far removed from the average Canadian individual out of a job and having to find work and how temp agancies have a monopoly of sorts that is is an unheard of, unknown problem.

To recap, this is nuts, just like climate change or environmental issues the world has to be informed what bad choices the government is making for the people of the land.

I want to report about how inaffective and useless staffing agencies are and a waste of time. There single goal is to place you in a job whether it is right or wrong for you so that they make a commission off the individual and it's only a numbers game to them. I was made to feel inadequate because they stuff me into a position I have no experience for and they send to place to have me take a test for a $8.50 an hour job. Unfortunately they corner the job market to get a job through them and that's the sad thing. I want to name some of them. Kelly Services,Durham Staffing,Remedy Staffing,Apple One. These are some of to be aware of.

Kelly Services in NY.

Here you can be fired or "released" for any reason they feel fit with the statement " the company no longer has work for you ". Then the company hires 20 the next day, and two are in your position. The most useless pieces of waste get jobs because they are willing to perform "tasks" for the boss that any self respecting person would refuse.

I applied for several jobs and got sent only for one interview which i did not even get.
The recruiter never told me why I didnt get the job or anything!
I would stay away from this agency as they are just a waste of time.
I applied for so many jobs and when you call them, they say "Oh, this job does not really exist"! Why would you put a job up and then say that?? They only collect people's resumes and just add it to there computer database but then you never hear anything back. Even when you contact them, they say "We have updated our database and we will be in touch when something comes up"! Like when will that be in 5 months, 2 years? 10 years? Ranstad sucks !!!

I have been working for an agency for 10 months now, its a healthcare agency, i signed up to get experience in charity work and homeless shelters. things went great for a while, shifts are offered when needed, then that dried up when a "complaint" was sent in against me and I'm told an hour before I think I'm supposed to go to work... a few months down the line I learnt that there was no complaint, they wanted to give their mates the work instead and I was already booked up for the shift, so they made up the story. They wound their neck in quickly when I told them I would be making a formal complaint to the company they are representing and they also knew I had "networked" (hate that word) with the upper management and was on their good side as I'm a good worker.

I stayed on because it was my only way to get money but I wasn't happy, they started sending me to care homes for the elderly and even lied to me that it wasnt, I took the work anyway.

I got my own back in the end, I'm applying for the job outright with the company I'm working in now who pay double what I'm earning, as I've enough experience now to meet the criterea. I've also declined shifts at care homes (horrible fucking work btw) when I know they're desperate to find someone within that hour.

Get it right fucking up you recruitment bastards.

My first year working at an agency was a disaster. Just within that first year I had worked at roughly 20 sumthing companies, all which had high turnovers and were really shit jobs but I needed the money like all of us.
Into the second year I finally landed a good placement at a big name car manufacturer.
Now,,, came the 3 months. I was pulled off of that job by the agency pretty much a week before I could get hired directly by this company.

I finished my 8hr day, went home and recieved a phone call saying I had to be pulled out cause I was needed elsewhere as in that same day at who knows where.
I was a 7 to 7 shift at some manufacturing place. I turned it down because I was pissed, and also I would get 4hrs of a break then do a 12hr shift.
They said they no longer needed me. WTF!!!!

oh ya,,I was making $8.50/hr, They made the other $20/hr.

How can they sleep at night those bastards!!

Its relieving to see a blog like this. These temp agencies are an unnecessary hurdle in the job market; typically disappointing to their client companies and down right deceitful to labour. I consider them poster children for crony capitalism, dirty peddlers of low paying and low quality jobs who celebrate a recession where there exists a vast pool of well qualified yet desperate people in which to exploit a profit ...and to provide what to business? Boil down all the BS and you will find nothing more tangible than an employee referral. They contribute absolutely nothing to production cycles. With the impetus of Satan, they will exploit fears and anxieties of the parties between them ...anything that will increase a service charge to a client company and lower the wage for a desperate worker. If both hiring managers and job hunting employees boycott these guys than they will simply go away. They exist betwixt necessary business functionaries: employer and employee. Nothing else will sustain them. I habitually tell staffing agents (Aka "executive recruiters", "talent recruiters", "(X) consultants", or whatever tittle they use to disguise their real nature) to go to hell.

They are ubiquitous and will remain so as long as the unemployed act in desperation and companies outsource their essential tasks.

Indeed, staffing agents are scum. I am convinced that if all staffing agents in the world were killed in one night humanity would see contract offerings from hell before breakfast.

Wow! I've wondered if I was the only person being jerked around by recruiting agencies. The last time an extremely enthusiastic recruiter called me, I told her I didn't want to waste time if there's no real job opportunities. She assured me - I mean really assured me- that she had a perfect opportunity for me. Well, after spending a freakin hour filling out the online profile, I then go to her office to meet her. I guess she wanted to make sure I don't look like Elvira. I wasted 3 hrs of my life (including the 30 mins drive each way) on that lying heifer. She ended the meeting by saying she would present my resume to her client. That was over a month ago. The only call I got from her was three weeks ago for a job at a level so low, fresh graduates wouldnt want it. And I have 16 years experience!

From your comments, I see now that recruiters really are vampires sucking the jobs out of the economy. They should be outlawed! You've helped me see that I shld never waste time with them again.

These bastards are the armpits of the earth and require a resume to sign on with them. It's pretty sad that a lot of small or big companies use these maggots instead of having there own Human resources title/ or whatever else it may be, and if your lucky to land a permanent job, the company has to pay them up/ buy you out ( Rarely Happens )
As far as work experience and education, recruiters simply do not care. I have two College Diplomas, non of the jobs ever matched my criteria. I went from working as a Diesel Mechanic to unboxing and shelf displaying bubble baths and soaps and still getting mistreated and walked on by these employees just because they know where you came from.

I've only tried to use one, and that was enough to piss me off so I'll never use another. It was Express Employment Professionals. I applied for an alleged office assistant job (this was posted on a site like Career Builder or Monster, like others have said) online and then the next day I got an email from EEP. They wanted me to call them to set up an interview. I assumed it was actually for the job I applied for since they didn't say otherwise. However, once I got there they had me take some tests, said I did really well on them, and then asked me some general job questions. Then they said they might have something for me (not the job I actually applied for) but wouldn't tell me what it was or which company it was, but they would call me soon. That was four months ago and I haven't heard a peep from them. Of course I'd realized I'd been used by the time I left so I cried in my car for a while before driving home. What a waste. I hope those stupid liars burn in hell.

Just remember one thing when you work for a staffing agency. The reason why you were hired is so the client can dump for any reason at all. Therefore you don't owe to the staffing agency OR the client to remain. Keep looking for better paying work and don't hesitate when something better comes along to jump ship. That is how it works. They try to get you to think you owe them more courtesy then they do you and these days smart employees know better then to fall for that. It doesn't matter how good you are treated. You were hired in a disposable manner and that is what you should keep foremost in your mind from the very beginning up until the client hires you flat out as a regular employee. Until that time you do not owe them ANYTHING beyond one day at a time.

Being a long tenured IT professional with references from the highest levels of public and private IT realms I can tell you this about staffing agencies.
    1. If they need to call me in for an interview at the agency they have no openings and are only looking to impress their boss by getting me to come in.
2.If they contect me about work out of town and start telling me that travel and hotel issues are part of their "all inclusive" pay rate they are minor players in the realm and as being such are viewed by the clients as well and therefore a laibility to your employment search not an asset.
3.If they blow smoke at me about having all these clients with high level positions available and can't point to an interview for a position worth at least 80K pr yr within a month they are liars.
4.If they bulk at providing specialty software needed and expect me to handle licensing for things security scanners etc. they are too cheap for me to consider working with for long.
5.If they want to test any of my abilities on their office evaluation software it is because they don't enough to ascertain real candidates from pretenders and as such are not qualified enough to rate my further attention.
6.If they start expecting me to write reports on activities daily or otherwise in my off time they are trying to leverage my time for free and deserve my walking out on them without notince.
7.When scope creep above and beyond the job description I signed on for occurs they either pay more without being asked or I take a walk on them (again) without notice.

The scum here in Melbourne, Australia always ask for your referees up from, this is a big no no as they should only ask for them when you are being considered for the job by the employer, anyway, they sent your referees detail to their marketing department to use as leads to try and drum up more buisiness for themselves.
At the start of this year (2012)I had 6 very high quality referees will to help get to the next step in my career, out of the 6, 5 of them have contacted me telling me that they will no longer vouch for me as they have been inundated with sales calls from recruiment agencies using my name as an in to gain their buisiness.
I've even had one contact me asking if I would like to join their footy tipping comp (for a small fee, I Emailed them back telling them to first do their jobs and find me some work and then I would gladly join, of course I never heared from them again.....Funny that, aye...

Ha - I knew that i wasnt the only one being shit on from a great height. Doesnt make me feel any better though!
As some of the comments have stated - it is a sign of the times - people are becoming more corrupt and thats the way the system has been designed - its not like this by chance!
The rich get richer and the poor - well you already know!
Developed countries are going to become third world at this rate!
My own experience is similar to many listed here - working hard labour for UK minimum wage short shift changes and virtually no health and safety. But what really sucks shit is the attitude of some of the attitude of some of the people. Ive worked harder for less but the attitude was better and I felt better as a result.
People can be such cnuts and there really is no excuse for that!
what agencies have done is create an under under class and they are slowly ploughing more people under.
people are becoming less friendly and again Its by design - it divides us all, squashes any aspirations we might have.
    Damn angry.

maybe we should work out the legal logistics and petition government to make this prostitution of labour illegal since its pure exploitation.

They also play a role in getting illegal migrants - like some Hispanic folks who does not have any legal rights to live and work in US. The staffing agencies arrange so that these folks can work for employers like $5 per hour, and the staffing agency rip them off.
Second, for example Express staffing agency - if you go to their agency and apply, they will say that they hire you, yet you are not given any job. They act like being an employer. And then they will refer you to a temp work, if you are lucky, that never hire, and rip you off.

Most employment agencies post fake jobs to harvest job seeker's profile for their own benefits. They rip you off again.

The employment agencies should not exit. They just rip people of. The employers should completely avoid these staffing agencies because they just suck people off.

    Hello

I can relate to all that. What gets me is that just about anyone can set themselves up as a "consultant" - no qualifications or work experience required. Thanks to LinkedIn etc you can find out a lot about recruitment consultants and I found that one guy who had said that my CV was "rubbish" had dropped out of university after one year! Another guy who used to be a waiter is now working for a really well-known agency as a "financial sector specialist"!

Yeah, they love telling you how they've got much more qualified people on their books. They advise you not to appear motivated by salary, while they themselves would sell their own mothers to make a few quid of commission ...

Another thing agencies do is allow employers to operate illegal discrimination on an arm's-length basis. All they have to say is that the client didn't want you - you don't know who the client is, so there's no way of contesting.

    They really are scumbags.

    Rant over for now.

These 'employment agencies' or 'staffing agencies' or head-hunters or whatever are just mother fuckers.
Oh, some of them are operating like so called 'non-profit'
without going through them the grassroot workers can earn at least 1 dollar more. Why do they want to rob them in very nice way? Why are they still have chance to do so? Why don't the employers just directly hire employees. These agencies do nothing but filter job opportunities for their profits...

Staffing agencies by and large are a bunch of greedy people who want to make money for nothing and get their checks for free. The worst ones are those who hammer you on your past wage scale. Invariably these are the ones who are bottom fishing and in most cases in fact have NO positions available. They lack self esteem and try to bolster that by trying to get you to degrade yourself with questions such as "What is the lowest wage you would work for". Uh huh, real gems those ones are. Today when I hear that I tell them straight up that there are sources for the average wage scale in any profession in any area of the country. In short, the ones who are looking to bottom feed won't do your resume any good and if you do sign on for a lower you will live to regret it. I has one start ying to me about BONE USes. Uh huh, like the carrot in front of the donkey trick. I don't ever fall for that BS and neither should you. Either they have the money to pay or they don't. Many today are pretending to be IT recruiters. Those are easy to see through because they make the interviews uncomfortable with questions about past wages to keep you off balance so you don't ask THEM any questions. Then you have the wannabees who only get orders for box cutters to set up PCs on desks that call seasoned engineers wanting to know if you will do a job for kibbles and bits. Humbling yourself to helping out in those types of positions only invites harassment and phone calls forever for the same lowest of the low level jobs. They charge the "customers" 50 pr hr and pay you 12-17. Uh huh. Those expecting you to humble yourself will NEVER come through with anything worth dealing with because quite simply the employers see right through them for the bottom feeders they are and never call them for higher level positions because the people who know enough to admin or engineer IT systems smarten up and want nothing to do with them. Invariably if they do provide someone to a higher position the candidates are a joke and the employers see right through them as such and don't even bothering contacting those agencies with those positions. Once a bottom feeder always a bottom feeder and that never changes.

Staffing agencies just want to fill jobs and tell you you may be hired permanent. But the reallity the companies they send you to have no intention of hiring. They use temps because they do not have to pay ANY benefits. They work with a skeliton crew and use temps to fill the gaps. They do not have any positions open. Some keep you for a while and then just get rid of you and get more temps. It is a continious process. All the while the staffing agencies are making money off of you. It is about winning the lottery, possible but not likely. It is the temps that suffer. Thinking the staffing agencies are honest and that they really have a chance of getting hired permanent. If someone was to be hired permanent it would eliminate a position for a temp. Which means the staffing agency would lose money. Greed by companies and staffing agencies is horrible. It is collusion by the staffing agencies and companies and the workers are powerless. Another thing is the reverse discrimination. If companies hire someone it is because of the tax credit they get by hiring a minority, recent vet,a race,a woman,or a certain age bracket. I am a vet, served 1977-1983 but not a recent vet. I am not racist either. I am married to a black hispanic woman. She has 3 things a employer could get a tax credit for, black, hispanic and a woman.

There are two types of temp agencies:
1.) Those who have contract with agencies to provide employees.
2.) Those who don't have contract with companies to arrange employees.

Those agencies which have contract with companies always choose best candidates to refer to the companies.
And I agree that those companies which don't have contract with companies they only try to fill the positions.

There are so many things that annoy me about temping agencies, and a lot of them are already listed on this blog. But one of the things that really gets me is that you register with them for temporary work, the interview you and you pass their tests and get your references. Then they say they have no work at all on their books, there is a recession etc, etc (OK but how are they still in business, the liars?) Then, the same agency posts temp jobs on the boards which you are qualified for. So, you know they are either lying or incompetent, or the new temp ads are fake.

They are completely dishonest, a bunch of fraudsters.

Most temp agencies I've been dumb enough to sign up with never contacted me again (and some have been so bold as to tell me it's my job to contact them every other day or so to see if they have a job for me - If I have to do all the work for them, why are they getting paid out of my checks?). My background is in electronic/mechanical repair & maintenance, but most temp agencies are looking for paper-pushers and custodians. i did manage to get two 90-day jobs in the last 2 years, in which my supervisors liked me 7 told me I was doing a good job - there was talk of expanding my training and job duties, and then out of the blue (within the next day or two) - the temp agency tells me there was a "headcount reduction" or "work slowed down", etc. but that my supervisor would like to have me back again if possible. When the same job posting went up on the temp agency's website again, and I applied for it, I never heard back from them and they wouldn't return my calls. the other time, the temp agency posted the same job opening 7 days before I was pulled off the job 2 hours before I was supposed to go in to work - the temp agency said the company no longer had that position available, but they just hadn't taken it down from their website yet. Despite the fact that my supervisor and co-workers were telling me how good a job I'd been doing and my supervisor was hoping to get me on full-time. Half the time, I can never speak to the same person twice at that agency - you leave a message for the person who called you and someone else calls you back - the receptionist had to look in the computer and find out why I'd been called (since he didn't leave a message other than "call me back") - so the receptionist had to tell me I'd been pulled off the job because my "agent" was too busy on another call or something.

At least it makes the unemployment numbers look good! Even if you're not actively working, the temp agency can call you their "employee".

--What's also great is when they find you a temp position at the end of the year (November/December), have you sign a form that gives them a tax break for hiring a veteran (or minority, or whatever)and then let you go in January! Thanks for the tax break - now go away!

Like everything else, staffing agencies have changed for the worst. Back in the 80s/90s they were great if you wanted some temporary work where you could learn some new skills, expand your horizons. Temp jobs paid well and often led to a permanent position and you were assured of working with recruiters who tended to be older and knew the ins and out of the positions you were being called in for. It’s become like fast-food now. You fill out a heap of paperwork, do some testing, talk to some snotty kid who couldn’t care less about you, the client, or much of anything else, for that matter. And when you’re done wasting a good 2-3 hours of your day with them, they sit there and tell you they don’t have anything right now, but they will call you. Then you never hear from them again, or else they have you go through this crap where you’re made to call in your ‘availability’ each and every week only to be told they don’t have anything for you. Truth is, worthwhile companies these days don’t have much use for them at all, though they’re hanging on by the skin of their butts and won’t tell you that. What companies are doing is advertising for their own temporary/seasonal jobs on online venues like Indeed.com, Simply Hired, and so forth, or else they draw from the resumes that are already available to them through these mediums. I actually had one of these staffing agencies call me in for what they said was a specific job for me, only to get there and fill out their crap-pile of paperwork, interview for a full hour, only to find out they really had nothing at all. Makes you wonder what they’re really getting out of recruiting so many people when they have nothing at all to offer. On top of that, the so-called recruiter sat there and drilled me about the companies listed on my resume (size of company, type of company, what it was like working there, etc.). To the point where I felt like saying, well, are you here to interview me or the companies I’ve worked for? I’m done with them. While I was sitting there wasting precious time with them, my phone was on silent but ringing off the wall with calls from employers I had applied to on my own. Employers take heed: I’m a great worker and I offer a world of solid experience and work ethics, but you won’t get me through any staffing agency. That maggot industry is not for me.

Agreed! Temp agencies are a scam. In NYC, you'll find that temp agencies are run by very stylish party girls who have no real world experience because mommy and daddy pay the bills. Atrium Staffing stinks! They actually trick you into taking assignments advertized as full-time and then you get the nice part-time surprise. Of course, that's when they actually manage to get you something...
The worse thing is they've got the market cornered. It's so hard to get a job otherwise.

Oh America, between internships, temp agencies and part-time, non-living wage hourly jobs, I am starting to hate you!!

I am in doubt, no doubt whatsoever that these agencies SUCK!!! I was stupid enough to use these infernal organizations to help me get some teaching posts when I left Uni years ago. OK, so the experience wasn’t all bad, at first! But now, thanks to paedophiles and sexual predators in the teaching profession, everything is becoming more and more bureaucratic with, constant security checking, which of course YOU have to pay for (you MAY get your money back IF you work enough hours), but now it’s all getting so tight and overly competitive. I have 20 years teaching experience, in key skills like Maths, Science and IT and it’s getting harder and harder to find work. Anyway, I am now trying to find work in the Software Industry having become completely disillusioned with teaching. BUT of course, these damn agencies are getting in the way AGAIN. I get chased up by a lot of them that seem so enthusiastic about you at first but, as soon as they find out that, although you have the degrees, the skills and the experience, but lack that keyword; COMMERCIAL experience, they go all cold on you and give up! Recruitment agencies are just the middle men and women looking to make a quick buck! They don’t really care about investing in people and, the only people they will take a gamble on are those that have commercial experience, regardless of your skills, academic qualifications or non-commercial experience. I am totally depressed on this current state of finding work in the 21st century. The jobs ARE there. Firms want to recruit and expand but are too lazy to find people directly and use these commission grabbing “experts” to find people on their behalf. It’s crazy!!!

They were THE ONLY ONE THAT I HAD NO PRPBLEMS WITH AND THEY GOT ME TWO JOBS I LOVED. They may have been as a temp Cleaner and a School Crossing supervisor, but they PAYED WELL, and were very enjoyable. The Jobs were organized AROUND my other mental issues of Anxiety and they scheduled appointments courteously and not too often. I wasn't kept in the office for more than 45-minutes and got plenty done, felt as If I was doing the applications at a good pace.

Maybe the fact that they actually HELPED THEIR TRUE CLIENTS is the reason they were cut.... No we can't actually have an agency that's actually helpful can we!

Australian Public Service – risk management & compromised corporate governance.

    - rorting between recruitment companies, contracted personnel and government agencies

    - stifling influence upon the Australian National Audit Office in carrying out reasonable and honest audit of contracted staff recruitment by government agencies, compromised corporate governance

An example of this was reported in the Canberra Times:

    “Poaching of Staff Alleged

    BY PHILLIP THOMSON

    10 Apr, 2011 12:00 AM

THE DEPARTMENT of Foreign Affairs and Trade says a specialist for a private Canberra consultancy firm stopped work for DFAT after an investigation was launched into allegations the worker had tried to poach staff from competing companies working in the department.

The DFAT statement said the specialist worked for Integral Consulting Services and had been investigated twice over claims of trying to poach staff from other private contractors working for the department.

A spokeswoman said the department still had a business relationship with Integral and there was no suggestion that the alleged poaching took place with the knowledge of the company.

Integral has been paid $1.57million since 2007 to work inside the department providing IT and administrative services, according to AusTender documents.

A DFAT statement said the department’s conduct and ethics unit first investigated the Integral specialist in 2008.

”In 2008, an Integral Consulting Services specialist was cautioned for seeking to poach the employees of other DFAT contractors,” the statement said.

”Although not illegal, DFAT considered this inappropriate behaviour. In 2010, a similar allegation was made and following the commencement of an investigation the specialist ceased providing services to DFAT.”

A statement from Integral said management and ownership changed in July 2010.

”While the individual specialist may have been cautioned, we are not aware of any formal caution provided by DFAT to the company.

”The specialist to which the statement refers no longer works for Integral.

”Integral is a strong advocate of fully transparent dealings with [information and communications technology] contractors.

”It has never been terminated from the DFAT panel.

”We have no record of correspondence between DFAT and Integral relating to the past investigations.

”Integral would not like to see the alleged actions of an individual who no longer works for the company jeopardise the current and future interests of the other 18 ICT contractors who continue to provide services to DFAT,” the company said.

The case within DFAT was one of the latest in an increasing number of internal investigations by the department’s conduct and ethics unit.

During the past two years the department has internally investigated this and more than 40 other serious allegations according to documents obtained under Freedom of Information laws.”

Simple solution is forcing all of our politicians to be hired on through the newly founded CTA.. Citizens Temp Agency.

Its goes like this.. Our government has a need to put in place representatives from all surrounding areas in order to operate as expected. So the CTA puts ads everywhere for a temp to perm job working for the gov. After looking over all possible resumes, and listening to each candidate whine about why they deserve the job more. The CTA(every citizen) will vote in who seems to fit the best.

Now since CTA has done the hiring, they will get a huge cheque from the company.. erm.. I mean government. When payday arrives for the ecstatic newly hired politician, CTA quickly takes 60% and with a giant grin slips the other 40% into his/her bank account. When they ask why the wage is so low they get a spiel about how it is plenty to live off of. And not to worry because if they are a good hard worker who doesn't complain they just might get hired on full time. All the while everyone at CTA is laughing because buddy bought all the lies and is actually working for low pay, no benefits and no pension. CTA collects big cheques for not doing much and spreads em out amongst its citizens.

If this was how things were done, it wouldn't be too long before all of our representatives are voting temp agencies illegal and sending them off into oblivion. Instead of spending their time voting in new raises for themselves.. as if that even makes sense.

    My 2 cents..

I was contacted by Better Choice Staffing in Victoria, BC who for some unknown reason (beside qualification) has secured one of many contracts to provide temporary staffing to the Government of BC. Shame on them.

There is currently a hiring freeze in the government so they are using scum bag agencies to hire and pay them way under what the union jobs pay. Again shame on you.

The president of the company hauled me in for an interview for a 30 day job, she had me do testing online, and fill out forms only relevant and applicable to BC GOV Employees. These forms would give her the names of hiring individuals in the Ministries and there direct numbers, sneaky and cheap, I did not fill it out, I told her I could not remember, but my back was up.

Trying to poach off of me and another agency, which incidentally did get me some work in Govt. She followed this up with calling the references I provided and then insisting I let her copy my drivers license and sin number cause I may be pretending to be someone else, not legal to work, and just dying to sit in a temp pool.

Hello dummy you checked my references. Anyway I refused the ID part as she could not provide a legal reason for this request. Upon researching this so called professional I see she is an American from NY where they ID and profile the crap out of there citizens.
Oh and I forgot to mention the job was highly specialized document work which I was offered a whole 13 dollars an hour, not a living wage for BC. And 4 dollars less per hour than other temp agencies in Victoria, BC.

During my interview she hinted that my other temp agencies were super busy (cause she would know after all she works there...not) and that I must have done something really wrong to not be getting calls. Cause she is a sneaky creep and this is her style of doing business. I needed a shower after meeting ANNA SMITH of BETTER CHOICE STAFFING, aka I NEED A BATHING STAFFING.

This resulted in my confronting the other reps at these agencies, and repeating what she had convinced me was happening, what a scum, I think she got off on it, and it did not go over well. Not that I care cause they are all liars.

I realize now why they do those Craigslist posts its to get company leads using the applicants name as an in. That can't be legal.

Anyway, if in Canada contact your MP or MLA and let them know how you feel, write to the Minister of Labour and let them now what your experience has been.

I have only had 2 positive experiences with staffing agencies and these were short lived as both people quit the industry.

Dont be mad with them or cursed them. These agents are salesperson and they mostly young adults that not even know how to recruit employee, they only know how to earn high commission.

For people decide to look for job especially fresh grad, please go through newspaper, portal, job fair or previous intership. I sugggest you better improve the resume you try to send it by emphasize your skills, experience(if fresh grad, try to put more activities, curiculum vitae or club you involved in that related to the job) that will greatly make you suit the position you applied on. And dont give up, just keep on send it.

Dont always aim for big organisation, some small sme also offer good renumerate package and benefits. I am sure you will receive phone call for interview from the efford you put in. All this time consuming, you all can go for temp job while waiting for interview.

I totally agree with you. I have a great resume and can't even get a underpaid position through a temp agency. They hog up all the jobs in your area, and dole them out to who they want to and it is not based on who is necessarily qualified for the job. Their friends and family, maybe. It should be illegal for agencies to corner the job market and give them to their friends and family over an applicant is needs and deserves the job. It is why some people, no matter how qualified, will never get hired through these agencies, unless it is a one day, low paying, crappy job that no one else wants. They make you feel worthless, but, they are less than honest and are hogging all the good jobs. It should be illegal for them to be able to do that. I think they should be monitored by a fair and just bureau, BBB? If a fair and just bureau even exists anymore.

I can not agree with you, because recruitment agency supplies a great deal of jobs for job seekers. It serves to ramp up a career of candidates.

Temp agencies collect resumes from job hunters, and then mine those resumes for contacts and leads. They will even call the company you currently work for and see if they can replace you with someone else! One temp agency I registered with kept trying to harass me to give out names of people who did the hiring at all my old jobs. It was so obvious what she was doing. Also, clients who use temp agencies are often malicious and make up lies about the temp worker, to get their fees reduced or eliminated. TRUTH. My best advice is don't temp, instead look for any kind of permanent employment, even if its just working at Starbuck's or a bookstore for the time being until you get something better.

I totally agree - do not start temping if you can hold out for a real job.

It’s a vicious cycle once you’re a temp, your lead by the illusion that a "possible" full time job may be on the horizon. Instead you’re a actually a highly disposable item that will be doing the actual work that the employees hired on are too lazy to do because their busy playing computer games and Facebooking.

Once your hooked into temping and become complacent try getting out. Being away from having to do actual interviews will set you back as you try to explain why you’ve been temping for so long. Not to mention that you’ve got next to nil credit rating, no pension or company RSP, but not a big deal right? This isn’t a company thing for regular workers anymore anyways.

In conclusion, Boycott temp agencies, they are parasites.

I'm signed up with about 8. Only one of them ever got me a temp job. Although that job treated me all right, they used me to replace a former temp who had made one mistake that wasn't even her fault. They got a refund for her and it always made me feel like companies use them just because you are completely disposable and not their responsibility.

The other agencies I've had experience with are just rude and unhelpful. I won't be signing up with any more.

Not really anyone that "strong" as a candidate wouldn't need assistance from an agency. It's shady business practices plain and simple. No way the agency should make more of your pay than you...unass an appropriate portion of the "fee" and quit with the nepotism/kickbacks.The "strong" candidates are the ones who have yet to have their work history or self esteem destroyed by these vultures.
